Why Lote Tree Foundation?

Please support our efforts in the Intellectual Struggle “fī sabīli llāhi”, in the Path of Allāh the Exalted.

Our intention is nothing other than to train the scholars and thinkers of tomorrow, who will be carriers of the Divine message of Islam in the modern age, individuals who, through the light of the Muhammadan teaching, can respond effectively to the challenges of the age.

Dear Supporters

Zakat is one of the five foundational pillars of Islam and is an individual obligation on those who possess wealth above the ‘niṣāb’ threshold.

Allah says in the Qurʾān “The alms (zakat) are only for the poor and the needy, and those who collect them, and those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and to free the captives and the debtors, and for the cause of Allāh, and (for) the wayfarers; a duty imposed by Allāh. Allāh is knower, Wise.”

(Surah al-Tawbah, verse 60)

We accept your Zakat contributions under the Qurʾānic category: for the cause of Allāh.

Imam ‘Ala’ al-Din al-Kasani (d 1191), the famous Hanafi jurist said,

“for the cause of Allāh” includes all pious activities: it includes all those who work in the obedience of Allāh and in the path of good and who are needy [of help].”

(Bada’i` al-sana’i` ii. 471–72).

This is in line with verdicts given by notable contemporary Islamic scholars like Shaykh Mohammad Akram Nadwi (Dean of Cambridge Islamic College) who supports the channelling of Zakat funds to Muslim schools, colleges, and da`wah centres.

Give Local

The purpose of zakat is to create, strengthen, nourish and nurture communities of believers, wherever they are found, to enable them to uphold the cause of God and His remembrance. This is part of the larger social vision of the Islamic faith, whose many rules and injunctions are designed to bring hearts together in healthy communal ties. The institution of Zakat lies at the centre of this vision and should wherever possible be given to local causes.

Therefore we would strongly urge you to consider donating your zakat to Lote Tree Foundation. Your contributions are an invaluable source of income that enable us to not only serve you efficiently through disseminating traditional Islamic knowledge (to both children and adults), but to invest in pressing and pioneering community projects that greatly impact us in this rapidly changing World.

We Have The Power To Change The Situation

We need more centres of traditional learning and community care that are ably equipped to deal with this phenomenon. But to set up and run these institutions professionally requires dedicated resource and operational costs, hence Lote Tree Foundation is no different.

“The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and establish prayer and give zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger. Those – Allāh will have mercy upon them. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.”

(Surah al-Tawbah, verse 71)
